2022 Cortez Celtic Fair
Solo Piping Competition and Piping Trio Competition
Held at Parque di Vida, next to the Cortez Rec Center, 425 N Roger Smith Avenue, Cortez, CO 81321
Saturday, June 25, 2022. Planned starting time is 11:00 a.m., but may be adjusted based on the number of entries received (in which case, all competitors will receive an email with their line-up and the contest start time.
The Cortez Celtic Fair is admission-free for spectators (so, each competitor is encouraged to bring a bus-load of followers, for moral support). Incidentally, all beer sales profits are given to charity.
WUSPBA Sanctioned: All applicable events are sanctioned by the Western United States Pipe Band Association (WUSPBA).
EVENT #1—Grade V Practice Chanter (play one 2-part tune by memory)
EVENT #2—Piping Grade IV 2/4 March (must be a minimum of four parts)
EVENT #3—Piping Grade IV Slow March (Slow Air) (must be a minimum of 32 measures)
EVENT #4—Piping Grade IV 6/8 March (must be a minimum of four parts)
EVENT #5—Piping Grade IV Piobaireachd (play the Ground + the next numbered variation)
EVENT #6—Piping Grade III Piobaireachd (submit one)
EVENT #7—Piping Grade III 2/4 March *
EVENT #8—Piping Grade III Strathspey and Reel*
EVENT #9—Piping Grade III 6/8 March *
EVENT #10—Piping Grade III Jig *

EVENT #28–Piping Trio Competition. (Open, as in: there are no grades)-- 3-5 Minute Medley
Entry Fee: $20 per trio. Prize money: 1st place: $90 2nd place: $60 3rd place: $30
Awards for Solo Events: Medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. Judge's decision is final.
Competitors are responsible for keeping track of how the contest is moving, ready to play sooner in case of another competitor “scratching” or “breaking-down.”
Entry Fees: $20 for one event. $10 for each additional event. Yes, if you’re, say, a Grade III piping competitor, and you enter all five possible events (and what fire-eating Grade III piper doesn’t do this?), your total entry fee is $60. All entries are done on-line only.

Our Piping Judge for 2022: Pipe Major Jeff Anderson
Jeff Anderson began his gratifying Scottish arts career in the Dunedin, Florida school system, joining the Grade 2 City of Dunedin Pipe Band his junior year at Dunedin High School. He won the Southern United States Pipe Band Association (SUSPBA) Champion Supreme title for multiple consecutive years and was promoted to the solo open class in 1996.
During college, Jeff organized and led the University City Pipe Band in Gainesville, FL and returned to the City of Dunedin Pipe Band after graduation. He served as chairman of the SUSPBA Music Advisory Board from 2003 to 2012. He is a qualified piping adjudicator on the EUSPBA and WUSPBA judges’ panels and has judged solo piping and pipe bands from California to Florida. Jeff resides in Scottsdale, Arizona and is the pipe major of the Grade 3 Phoenix Pipe Band. He has served on the grading committee for the WUSPBA Music Board since 2013, has taught piping in the Lifelong Learning program at Yavapai College, and routinely teaches several successful, prize-winning students across Arizona.
